Mission News
From POBLO International
POBLO Missions: POBLO is an acronym that stands for "PEOPLE OF the BOOK LUTHERAN OUTREACH". "People of the book" is a term taken from the Quran that refers to Christians and Jews, sometimes positively, sometimes quite negatively. The name POBLO was chosen because of its mission focus.
In the Great Commission, Jesus commanded us to “Go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit" (Matthew 28:19).
This call drives POBLO’s desire to share the Gospel message with the nations right here in our own front yard. As the world becomes more globally connected and the demographics in the U.S. continue to become more culturally diverse, we see a key opportunity to be a witness to Muslims, Hindus, and Sikhs who are searching for the Truth.
Many of the refugees that POBLO serves fled their country because of political or religious persecution. Now in the U.S., they have the freedom to learn about and practice Christianity without fear. The growing communities of Muslims, Hindus, and Sikhs across the U.S. are a mission field ripe for harvesting.
POBLO’s missions work consists primarily of missionary training, church planting, and grassroots evangelism through Bible studies and one-on-one conversations with those interested in exploring the Christian faith or learning more about Jesus. The fields are ripe for harvest (John 4:35) right here in the U.S., and we are responding.
POBLO has planted 84 churches in the U.S., Afghanistan, Bangladesh, India, and Pakistan and trained 116 missionaries. More than 2,100 individuals have come to faith in Christ and been baptized through POBLO's ministry efforts, through the grace of God and the power of the Holy Spirit.
Many of POBLO’s missionaries are former Muslims and Hindus who are now sharing the Gospel of Jesus in major cities across the U.S., where Muslim, Hindu, and Sikh populations are growing and the need to share the Gospel message is great. POBLO trains these men and women to preach the Good News in their native language, an effective strategy for being culturally relevant.

From the Mission Board
The Mission Board is making a commitment to local ministries that affect the people in our local community. We have initiated a program that encourages every member to get involved in missions in some way; Prayer, Volunteerism or helping with Funding. This will be a yearlong campaign for all of 2015. We will be hosting a mission fair in the fall that will feature the ministries listed below. Take note of the new Bulletin Board that is in the hallway near the mail boxes. You’ll find descriptions of various mission opportunities. Pick one that you are most interested in and decide how to use your time talents or treasure to further this kingdom work. You’ll find a convenient envelope for financial gifts adjacent and to the right of the B Board. The Mission Board has stepped forward with an initial gift of $300 (in some cases more) to each of these ministries and will match additional gifts up to another $300 for each ministry. “Put me to the test” says the Lord Almighty “and see if I don’t open the floodgates of heaven” Malachi 3:10
